Study in Sweden 2027 from Egypt: 15 January Deadline & Document Translation

study in Sweden Egypt

If you want to start a university programme in Sweden in autumn 2027, the two dates to remember are 15 January 2027 for your online application and 1 February 2027 for your documents and application fee. The application window opened on 16 October 2026 on universityadmissions.se, and the first round is the one international students are advised to use, so they have time to arrange tuition payment and a residence permit.

This guide is written for Egyptian applicants. It covers the key dates, the documents Sweden asks for, how translation works, and the residence permit step after admission.

Key dates for autumn 2027

Step Date
Applications open on universityadmissions.se 16 October 2026
Application deadline 15 January 2027 (midnight CET)
Documents and application fee deadline 1 February 2027
Results for master’s programmes 1 April 2027
Results for bachelor’s programmes 8 April 2027

These dates come from Stockholm University’s published admissions calendar, which follows the national timetable. Always confirm the dates for your own programme on universityadmissions.se, because individual universities may add their own steps.

What Egyptian bachelor’s applicants must submit

According to the official Egypt page on universityadmissions.se, a bachelor’s applicant with Egyptian schooling needs:

  • the General Secondary Education Certificate (شهادة الدراسة الثانوية العامة), which meets the general entry requirement
  • a record of completed upper secondary education
  • a copy of the passport page with your personal data and photo, or a similar ID document

Two points surprise many applicants:

  • University studies cannot replace your upper secondary certificate. Previous university results may still help you meet course-specific requirements, so it is worth submitting them.
  • Egyptian upper secondary studies do not meet the English requirement, even if you studied in English. You prove English through certain university studies or an internationally approved test.

Master’s applicants should read the Egypt page for master’s admission on universityadmissions.se, because the documents differ. A typical master’s file includes your degree certificate and transcript, proof of English, and any programme-specific items such as a CV or a motivation letter.

Translation rules: what universityadmissions.se says

The Egypt page is clear on translation:

  • Documents in English, French, Spanish, German, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish or Finnish do not need translation.
  • Documents in other languages, including Arabic, need an official translation into Swedish or English.
  • “Official” means the translation was made by a translation company or a person who works as a translator.

In practice this means your Arabic secondary certificate, transcripts and degree documents need a professional English translation, uploaded with the originals or copies as the instructions require. A certified translation from a professional translation office meets this description.

Names and dates must match everywhere

University Admissions checks that your name and birthdate match across all documents, including your ID, transcripts and your universityadmissions.se account. If names differ, you must explain the difference with official documentation, such as a marriage certificate. Differences in birthdate compared with your passport also need official documentation.

Practical advice for Egyptian names:

  1. Choose one English spelling, exactly as in your passport.
  2. Give the same spelling to your translator, and ask for it on every translated page.
  3. Open your universityadmissions.se account with that same spelling.

Upload early and keep proof

Uploading documents on the website is the easiest method. You are responsible for submitting everything by the deadline, and University Admissions can verify documents with the issuing institution. If a document is found to be fraudulent, admission can be revoked. Plan your translation time well before 1 February, because a university certificate and transcripts can take days to collect and translate.

After admission: the residence permit

Non-EU students need a residence permit for studies, issued before travelling to Sweden. According to the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket):

  • You must pay any tuition fee first, and then apply as soon as you have your admission decision.
  • For 2026 applications, you must show at least SEK 10,656 per month to support yourself. The amount is higher if you bring family members, and may change for 2027.
  • Your bank statement must be dated no more than four months before the permit’s start date.
  • Documents must be in Swedish or English, with certified translations and the originals included.
  • The page states that 75% of recently decided cases were decided within three months, and that waiting times vary.

Rules for family members who accompany a student changed on 1 October 2026. If you plan to bring a spouse or children, read the Migration Agency’s news item before you apply. For documents such as marriage and birth certificates, plan translation early.

What about scholarships?

The Swedish Institute (SI) offers scholarships for master’s studies. Its application windows are separate from the university deadline, and for the previous cycle the portal was open from 9 to 25 February 2026. At the time of writing we could not confirm the dates or the list of eligible countries for the 2027 call, so check si.se before you plan around a scholarship. A scholarship application also needs a university application, so the January deadline still matters.
