What Is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master?
An Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) is a master’s programme run by a group of universities, called a consortium. The European Commission funds these programmes under Erasmus+. As a result, you study in at least two countries and usually receive a joint or multiple degree.
According to the Erasmus+ Programme Guide, programmes last 12, 18 or 24 months. That equals 60, 90 or 120 ECTS credits. In addition, every student must complete at least two study periods in two countries. At least one of them must be an EU Member State or a country associated to the programme.
Today, the official EACEA catalogue lists more than 200 programmes. They cover fields such as public health, engineering, data science, law, education and the humanities.
Erasmus Mundus Egypt Eligibility: Who Can Apply?
Students from anywhere in the world can apply, so Egyptian nationals are fully eligible. The main conditions in the Programme Guide are simple:
- You need a first higher education degree, such as a bachelor’s, or a recognised equivalent level of learning.
- Anyone who already received an EMJM scholarship cannot receive another one.
- Each programme then adds its own academic and language requirements.
There is also a nationality balance rule. No more than 10% of the scholarships in a project should go to candidates of the same nationality. Therefore, a strong file matters, because you compete with other Egyptian applicants for a limited share.
Erasmus Mundus Egypt Scholarships: What They Cover
The EMJM scholarship is EUR 1,400 per month for the whole length of the master’s. It covers travel, visa, installation and living costs. Moreover, programmes cannot charge tuition fees or other mandatory participation costs to scholarship holders. Projects also cannot charge students application fees.
Keep in mind, though, that not every programme offers scholarships every year. For example, the University of Glasgow’s EDUMaH programme states that scholarships are not available for its September 2027 intake. So check the scholarship status of each programme before you invest time in its application.
2027 Intake Deadlines: Why There Is No Single Date
For Erasmus Mundus Egypt applicants, the key point is that each consortium runs its own selection. Consequently, deadlines differ from one programme to another. The EACEA catalogue notes that most programmes accept applications between October and January for courses starting the following academic year.
For instance, here are two verified examples for the 2027 intake:
- Europubhealth+: 8 January 2027, 1 p.m. CET for Erasmus Mundus scholarship applicants, with results in mid-March. Self-funded applicants have until 24 March 2027.
- MAIA (medical imaging): a tentative scholarship window from November 2026 to February 2027, for a cohort starting in September 2027.
However, these dates only apply to those two programmes. Other programmes may close in December, while others may stay open until February. Also, as the Europubhealth+ example shows, a scholarship deadline can come weeks before the self-funded one. In short, build your own list of target programmes and note each deadline separately.
How to Apply to Erasmus Mundus From Egypt
- Search the catalogue. Use the official EACEA Erasmus Mundus catalogue to shortlist programmes in your field.
- Check each programme website. Confirm entry requirements, scholarship availability and the exact deadline.
- Plan your English test. Most programmes ask for IELTS, TOEFL or similar proof, and test dates fill up fast.
- Prepare your documents. Order official copies and translations early, ideally in October.
- Submit through the programme portal. Each consortium uses its own online system, so read its instructions carefully.
- Wait for results. Scholarship results often arrive in spring. After that, you apply for your student visa.
Also, ask whether a programme accepts final-year students who will graduate before the start date. Rules on this vary.
Documents and Translations Needed
First, note that the exact list depends on the programme. For example, MAIA lists these documents for its 2027–2029 edition:
- Letter of motivation
- CV, preferably in the Europass format
- Your bachelor’s degree certificate, with an English translation if needed
- Academic transcripts, with an English translation
- Proof of English proficiency
- Passport copy and a passport-size photo
- Names and contact details of two referees
Many programmes ask for the same core set. However, some want certified copies, while others accept simple scans at the application stage. Similarly, translation rules differ. Some accept any certified translation, whereas others ask for a specific format. Read the applicant instructions of each programme before you order anything.
For Egyptian graduates, then, the key items are usually the degree certificate and the transcript. If your university issues them only in Arabic, you will need English translations. Our guide to certified translation for university admissions explains the usual formats.
How COT Helps With Your Erasmus Mundus Egypt File
The documents that most often need translation are degree certificates, transcripts, grading scale statements and graduation certificates. Later, at the visa stage, you may also need other civil documents, such as a birth certificate.
At COT, specialist human translators prepare certified English translations with our official stamp and a translator certification statement. We also keep your name, course titles and grades consistent across every page. Then we deliver a clear PDF for online portals, plus a printed stamped copy if you need one. For a quote, send your documents on WhatsApp to 01111760177.
For transcript-heavy files, see our transcript translation services. After selection, our guide to student visa requirements by country can help you plan the next step.
